Happy Go Lucky

There has been the odd survivor of this very very wet winter. (I'm in the process of taking roll call.) But here are the sweet peas, impatient and happy to self seed. Who am I to interfere?

Sea Lavender

A little while ago Nicolette from devliegendekoe asked me about this plant. It's one that we all grow here at the coast because it does well - but I had no idea what it was actually called. I've now found out. This excerpt from Teleflora:

Grown for both its colorful flowers and its everlasting calyx (the green leaf that encloses the flower bud), statice is also considered an herb, referred to as “sea lavender.” Statice is commonly used in dried flower arrangements as well as fresh bouquets. Its botanical name is derived from the Greek word “limonium,” meaning meadow, referring to the plants original habitat and likely why this versatile flower is also called marsh-rosemary. With a misty and seafoam appearance (two more names associated with this wildflower-like plant), in the language of flowers, statice symbolizes remembrance.

There apparently about a 120 varieties to be found around the world.

New Arrivals

Despite the success of 'The Dead Plant Society' I find myself compelled to spend more time with the living. It's a viscious cycle really.

About a year ago I planted this Wild Dagga. I had to really search to find the white variety as opposed to more readily available orange. Come to think of it I lost one of them to 'The Society'. Now it's started flowering and they are the most velvety soft looking pompoms ever!

My Irises have made it through four seasons and are back in bloom.

And last but not least I've planted some more restios.

Blooming Bush!

I've been fretting about my ribbon bush ever since I planted it about 3 months ago. There has been no sign of flowers ever, and I mean, nada, not even buds. I went on holiday and you've guessed it...my baby's blooming.

My Aggys are coming to an end and I think they're even more interesting now. For the first time in a couple of years I've had a really great show, I'm not quite sure why but I'm working on some theories. Too much water, too little water, compost etc.

Funky Friday Flower

My partner in crime at work brought in this grenadilla flower yesterday. I love it.

A classic sixties design of deep purple and acid green. The tie-dye detail in the middle really makes it rock. Peace and Lurve to you all.
